A fresh update on Tottenham’s pursuit of Djed Spence has emerged over the weekend, and it is not good news for Nottingham Forest.

Forest of course secured a return to the Premier League for the first time since 1999 at the end of May, beating Huddersfield Town in the Championship play-off final.

Djed Spence, on loan from Middlesbrough, played a key role in Forest securing a play-off berth. And it was his starring displays, in both the league and FA Cup, that resulted in the defender catching the eye of a number of clubs.

After securing promotion to the Premier League, there was an expectation that Forest would try to make a permanent move for the right-back.

However, they are facing stiff competition from a Tottenham side who can offer Spence Champions League football.

And now, the Northern Echo report that Tottenham’s interest is at an advanced stage, amid growing confidence within the Spurs hierarchy that they will win the battle to sign the 21-year-old.

In a further blow for the Forest faithful, sources also claim that the newly-promoted side have already begun to make moves for alternative right-back options, with Manchester City’s Issa Kabore the subject of growing interest.

Elsewhere on the Nottingham Forest front, the Reds are said to be keen on Burnley’s Nick Pope.

Burnley were of course relegated from the top-flight this past season, and Forest are now expected to try their luck with a low bid, according to The Sun.

It is added that the Clarets want £40m for the shot-stopper, albeit with a compromise expected to be reached.
