An insight into the future of Marcus Rashford at Manchester United has been provided on Friday.

Rashford did not have the best of 2021/22 campaigns. It started out with the forward missing the beginning of the season to recover from shoulder surgery.

Rashford then returned in October, but never really found his form under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer or Ralf Rangnick.

He scored just five and assisted two in 32 outings for the Red Devils across the campaign, a serious drop off from 2020/21.

On why Rashford struggled so badly, Ralf Rangnick, whilst interim manager, pointed to a lack of confidence:

“Marcus, it’s no secret that he is not having his best time right now, it has to do with rhythm and confidence as well, yeah, again it’s our job to help him to get this confidence back and that is why I decided to bring him on,” the German explained in April.

“In the end he has to do it himself obviously, but the only thing we can do is speak to him regularly and tell him what we expect from him and what he should do. The rest has to be done by himself.

Now, with a new regime in place at United, there has been some speculation that Rashford could depart this summer.

Tottenham have been the side most heavily linked with Rashford of late, with the Lilywhites now able to offer him Champions League football.

However, talk of a Rashford exit has been quashed by The Athletic’s Laurie Whitwell who writes: “Rashford will not be leaving United this summer.

“The club want to keep him and feel Ten Hag can bring him back to the levels we saw in 2019-20 and 2020-21.”
