Leicester City expected to be ‘final destination’ for Ozan Kabak as Schalke give defender time off to sort future

Liverpool choose not to sign Kabak

Liverpool, of course, signed Ozan Kabak on loan from Schalke during the winter window.

The Reds endured a nightmare campaign when it came to injuries, with all of Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip having been sidelined with long-term issues.

So, it wasn’t too much of a surprise to see both Kabak and Ben Davies brought to Anfield earlier this year.

Davies has not really featured since his arrival on Merseyside. But Kabak proved one of Jurgen Klopp’s most consistent starters over the season’s run-in.

Granted, his Reds stint was far from smooth sailing, but the Turkish international did form a fairly decent partnership with Nat Phillips.

As a result, most Liverpool fans likely expected to see Kabak signed on a permanent basis this summer.

When the 21-year-old joined, it was reported that the Merseysiders had secured an option to buy for an initial fee of £18m, with the potential to rise to £26.5m.

However, following the end of the Premier League season, it was revealed that Liverpool had no intention of exercising the option. And the Reds have, of course, since signed Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig.

Kabak to Leicester?

On the back of this news, Leicester City were linked with a move for the stopper:

Few further developments have since been forthcoming on the Kabak front, but it has now been suggested that the defender could yet make the move to the King Power by the end of the summer.

First, Schalke confirmed on Monday that Kabak has been given time off to sort out his future:

And journalist Chris Williams has since revealed that Leicester looks set to be his final destination, with Schalke expecting a deal to be finalised over the next week:
