Manchester United are hoping to make Frenkie de Jong their first signing of the Erik ten Hag era.

FC Barcelona are open to selling the midfielder but would look to replace him if he leaves.

Xavi Hernández wants Bernardo Silva to be the man to replace the Dutch midfielder, according to Mundo Deportivo.

Hernández assumes the departure of de Jong

As per COPE, Xavi Hernández assumes the departure of Frenkie de Jong to Manchester United.

Reports in Spain yesterday claimed that the Red Devils had lodged an €80 million bid to sign him.

The Barça manager is also open to letting him leave but would want to bring in someone of even better quality.

He wants that player to be Bernardo Silva.

Bernardo wants Barça move

Bernardo is fully aware of Barcelona's interest in him and a key factor in this story could be that the Portuguese midfielder wants to join Barça.

In fact, the 27-year-old is motivated to push through a move to Camp Nou.

He is understood to have grown up being a Barça fan idolising Deco, Xavi and Andrés Iniesta.

The Catalan club have been in contact with Bernardo's camp since last summer.

The player is aware that Barcelona will need to make the first step and present Manchester City with an offer.

There is a meeting scheduled for next week where this first offer could arrive.

But in the meantime, the player himself is ready to start a new challenge in Spain.
