Manchester United’s Premier League campaign drew to a close on Sunday.
The Red Devils picked up a 2-1 win at home to Fulham, finishing 3rd on 75 points. That once again means Jose Mourinho’s 81 points in 2017/18 remains the highest total of a Man United manager since Sir Alex Ferguson left.
Manchester United now have the summer to improve their squad before looking to actually mount a proper title challenge on Manchester City, and whoever else is at the top of the pile come next season.
To do so, though, United will likely have to spend a fair bit and Erik ten Hag has aimed a cheeky dig at the board for United’s lack of spending in the January window.
Speaking after the Premier League season came to an end, Ten Hag said: “The club knows that if you want to play top four, if you want to compete for trophies in this tough league, you have to invest, otherwise you won’t progress because other clubs will.
“We saw it in the winter. All the clubs around us invested. We didn’t and still we made it. So I am really happy and proud of my team.”
