‘Chelsea’s £44m move for Anthony Martial’
The Telegraph’s Matt Law has posted a fresh update on Chelsea’s transfer plans for this summer on Tuesday.
In it a range of possible moves in the market. However the headline story is that Chelsea have a “keen interest in Anthony Martial”.
Martial’s exit from Man United has been discussed ever since word slipped out that he’d rejected a five year offer.
Martial is out of contract in 2019, and he’s thought to favour a summer move as he’s dropped down the Old Trafford pecking order.
Tottenham and Juventus have been the clubs linked with Martial from the get-go of this saga. Yet, Chelsea could muscle in for Frenchman, as reported in the Telegraph:
(Juventus are) thought to be ready to pay £44m and that would comfortably fit into Chelsea’s budget – as would his salary with the 22-year-old currently thought to earn £65,000-a-week.
There are also good relations between United and Chelsea, following Nemanja Matic’s move to Old Trafford last summer and Mourinho has made no secret of his ongoing admiration of Willian.
West Ham & £30m Danny Drinkwater
While Chelsea will make signings this summer, the Blues are poised to be forced to sell players too.
If the Pensioners fail to qualify for the Champions League, they’ll need to balance their books in accordance with UEFA’s Financial Fair Play rules.
The positive for Chelsea is that they have plenty of assets who they can sell to raise significant cash.
That includes Danny Drinkwater, who is a West Ham target. But for how much? The Telegraph report:
Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Tammy Abraham will not be sold, but Danny Drinkwater could leave Chelsea just one year after his move from Leicester City.
West Ham United are one of the clubs ready to pay £30m for the midfielder.
When it comes to the big named sales, there are plenty of players set to leave Stamford Bridge.
Michy Batshuayi, Kurt Zouma, Kenedy, Marco van Ginkel, Lucas Piazon, David Luiz and even Pedro are named are on Chelsea’s sale list.
