Chelsea have learned the fee they would have to fork over to land Brighton star, Marc Cucurella.
The Spaniard has seen himself linked with a number of top clubs recently, buy mainly Manchester City and Chelsea.
And the Brighton defender has only fuelled speculation over a potential Amex exit in a recent interview.
When discussing his future, he said: “If the opportunity arises, you have to take advantage of it’, he told Gerard Romero. ‘There are teams that you can’t say no to.”
Now, according to reports from the English press this week, Chelsea have been told they must pay £45m if they want to sign the wing-back.
Should Chelsea sign Cucurella?
With Marcos Alonso clearly an unreliable option, it is probably a good idea for Chelsea to sign someone who can compete with Ben Chilwell in the long run.
And the Brighton man looks to be a great option. The Spaniard, along with Tariq Lamptey, operates in a very similar way to Chilwell and Reece James, providing width and a large part of their side’s creativity in a back-five system.
Chelsea would get a close look at Cucurella earlier this year when they drew 1-1 with Brighton. The defender caused the Londoners, and especially Cesar Azpilicueta, all sorts of issues on the evening.
However, at £45m, that may be a bit much for what would essentially be a second-choice option behind Chilwell.
