An insight into the future of Barcelona star Dani Alves beyond the coming summer has been provided on Friday evening.

Veteran right-back Alves of course secured a surprise return to the Camp Nou this past January, joining former teammate Xavi Hernandez's ranks on the back of the latter's instillation as manager.

And though, at the time, the signing was viewed as more geared towards aiding the development of the younger members of Barca's squad, the weeks and months since in fact saw Alves play an important role in the Catalan capital.

All told, the Brazilian racked up 16 appearances across all competitions, including 13 starts in La Liga en route to the Blaugrana's surge to an eventual 2nd-placed finish in the Spanish top-flight.

So, what of Alves' future beyond the summer?

Well, as alluded to above, an insight into precisely that has been provided on Friday.

The info comes by way of Javier Miguel of Spanish outlet Diario AS. Miguel reports that Alves, at present, looks altogether unlikely to continue his Barcelona journey through the 2022/23 campaign.

This comes with those in a position of power at the Camp Nou ready to allow the ex-Sevilla and Juventus man, who turned 39 earlier this week, to depart as a free agent.

Xavi and co. are understood to be confident that the options of Sergino Dest and Sergi Roberto, added to by the potential arrival of Cesar Azpilicueta from Chelsea, will provide more than adequate cover on the right of the club's backline.

An official announcement regarding Alves' release, in turn, is expected over the coming weeks.
