Word stemming from the media on Friday afternoon points towards Premier League outfit Aston Villa having set their sights on yet another high-profile addition ahead of next season.

The latest player tipped to take his talents to Birmingham? Luis Suarez.

As per a report from the Daily Telegraph, those in a position of power at Villa Park have begun exploring the possibility of adding veteran hitman Suarez to the club's frontline this summer.

This comes with the 35-year-old set to be available as a free agent, upon the expiration of his contract with La Liga giants Atletico Madrid.

Any such move to the Villans, of course, would mark a reunion for Suarez and Steven Gerrard, after the pair struck up a memorable partnership at Liverpool from 2011 to 2014.

Interestingly, word of their sudden interest in Suarez comes fresh on the back of further reports in the media this week that Danny Ings could be shown the exit door at Villa Park over the coming months, in a bid to raise funds for further arrivals.

Carlos the latest addition

Despite the summer window having not officially swung open yet, it has of course proven an altogether productive couple of months on the transfer front at Aston Villa.

Evidently keen to build further on an impressive recruitment drive in the summer of 2021, the Claret and Blue first made Philippe Coutinho's loan arrival from Barcelona permanent, before sealing a deal for soon-to-be free agent midfielder Boubacar Kamara.

Then, just 24 hours ago, Gerrard and co. beat out the competition to snap up highly-regarded defender Diego Carlos from Sevilla for a fee in the region of £26 million.
