Arsenal, Tottenham & Malcom
One of the deals which never happened in January was Malcom’s Bordeaux’s exit.
Malcom has been one of the standout players in Ligue 1 this season.
In 25 matches in the French top flight, the South American winger has eight goals and six assists.
A 20-year-old Brazilian U23 international, Malcom was linked with a move to the Premier League in the January transfer window.
The two clubs said to be leading the chase were north London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham.
Arsenal have since signed Henrikh Mhkitaryan, while Mesut Ozil has also agreed a new deal. Spurs recruited Lucas Moura from PSG.
Arsenal’s €42m bid for Malcom
German paper Bild have now confirmed that Arsenal had a €42m bid for Malcom rejected by Bordeaux in January.
It’s believed Bordeaux are demanding at least €50m plus €10m in bonuses for Malcom this summer.
Bild also linked the Brazilian with Bayern Munich, noting that Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery are coming to the end of their careers.
Brighton vs Arsenal
Would anyone even be shocked if Brighton beat Arsenal in the Premier League on Sunday?
If Swedish minnows Östersunds can win at the Emirates just a few weeks ago, of course Brighton can win.
Arsenal are coming into the match on terrible form. They were woeful in the Carabao Cup final against Man City losing 3-0, and Man City beat Arsenal 3-0 on Thursday night in the league.
The Gunners have lost four of their last five, and five of their last seven. How can Arsene Wenger keep his job?
And yet, of course, most Arsenal fans have little hope of seeing Wenger leave this summer.
