Arsenal handed potential Raheem Sterling boost as winger ‘leaning towards’ Emirates over Barcelona

An insight into the future of Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling has been provided recently

Sterling’s future up in the air

The subject of Raheem Sterling’s future has been rampant in the media of late.

Towards the end of last season, Raheem Sterling fell out of favour at Manchester City.

The Englishman, once one of City’s star men, was used as a bit-part player in the Sky Blues’ first-team setup.

And Sterling’s reduced role has continued into the 2021/22 season as well.

Across City’s last six league outings, he has started just one game, notching 39 minutes of action across the other five ties.

In turn, it had been speculated that Man City were resigned to losing Sterling and had set a price-tag of around £45-50m for the winger.

FC Barcelona were then linked with the Englishman, who was said to be open to a loan move to Catalonia.

Sterling open to Arsenal switch?

Now though, another report stemming from Italy as cited by football.london, suggests that Sterling would actually possibly prefer a move to somewhere else.

FL, citing Transfer Market Web, report that Arsenal have been handed a ‘major boost’ in their pursuit of Sterling, who is said to be leaning towards making the switch to the Emirates instead of going to Camp Nou to join Barcelona.

Given Arsenal have finished 8th in the last two Premier League campaigns and currently have no European football, landing someone of Sterling’s quality who is still only 26 years of age would no doubt be a major coup for them.

But Sterling did work with Mikel Arteta during the Spaniard’s time at City and it has become clear over the last few months that Arsenal as a club are on an upward trajectory. Could these things be enough for Sterling to swap guaranteed success for a place at the Emirates?
