Arsenal defender William Saliba’s view on joining Marseille permanently revealed
An insight on William Saliba’s view on joining Marseille on a permanent basis has been provided recently.
Arsenal of course secured Saliba’s services in the summer of 2019.
The Gunners are believed to have forked over around £27m for the centre-back.
Despite the hefty fee, however, Arsenal are yet to hand Saliba a senior appearance.
Instead, the centre-back has now been loaned out to three separate clubs, the latest of which came in the form of Marseille.
And now, as mentioned above, an insight on Saliba’s view on joining Marseille permanently has been provided.
As per football.london citing French outlet La Provence, Arsenal youngster Saliba is open to joining Marseille permanently if they qualify for next season’s Champions League.
Marseille are currently 3rd in the French top -flight, which would seem them secure a spot in the Champions League qualifiers for 2022/23. They also have a game in hand on 2nd-place Nice, which, if they win, will see them climb up to 2nd, an automatic place in the Champions League group stage.
Should Arsenal sell Saliba?
For Marseille, Saliba has been a superb asset this term, they currently have the best defensive record in Ligue 1, letting in just 16 in 21.
And Saliba is a big reason why, featuring in 20 of their league outings so far this season.
But whilst the young stopper has clear quality, would he be a regular starter at Arsenal?
The Gunners are by no means the finished article, but they do have a solid centre-back pairing in Ben White and Gabriel.
And whilst Saliba may get some game time next campaign especially if Arsenal secure European football, would he be happy going from a nailed-on starter to a 3rd-choice defender, or would it be better if Arsenal are able to recoup the money they paid for him.
