An insight into Arsenal’s plans to bring in a new winger this summer has been provided on Tuesday.

Early in the transfer window it did look as though the Gunners were going to seal a deal for Leeds United star Raphinha.

However, Chelsea then joined the chase, followed by FC Barcelona, with the Spanish outfit now seemingly very close to wrapping up a deal for the Brazilian despite their clear financial issues.

So, after seemingly coming close to splashing a sizable fee on Raphinha, there was an expectation that Arsenal would turn their attention towards another top wide-man.

We have since seen very few links between Arsenal and a winger, however.

But despite this, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has recently stated that the north Londoners are still considering alternatives to Raphinha, though one of them is not FC Bayern Munich’s Serge Gnabry:

“My understanding is that there are alternatives to Raphinha being considered, but a possible return for Serge Gnabry is certainly not on the list, despite the rumours.

On Arsenal’s summer transfer window, Romano added: “Arsenal have had a good summer, and with Edu at the helm they are a more serious force in the transfer market,” Romano explains.

“The Brazilian has a very strong relationship with Mikel Arteta and is proving a key figure in the growth of the Gunners, with his consideration among agents always higher. For example, his work was decisive in the signing of Gabriel Jesus from Manchester City.”
