Arsenal and Newcastle United among six potential summer suitors for French youth international

20-year-old Montpellier HSC forward Elye Wahi has bagged 17 goals in Ligue 1 this season, including a four-goal performance at the weekend against Olympique Lyonnais in a show-stopping 5-4 loss in the Rhône Valley

The summer transfer window by nature remains one of the most stressful periods of the footballing calendar, for both fans and club staff life, as the need to get it right when trying to improve one’s senior setup in order to reach your goals cannot be understated.

Surrounding the return to the Champions League for Arsenal and possibly Newcastle United, both clubs will most assuredly tap into their considerable financial resources in order to compete on both fronts across the 2023-24 season, with the Premier League pair linked with interest in French youth international forward Elye Wahi according to cited reports from Foot Mercato via Get French Football.

The 20-year-old Montpellier HSC starlet, who recently bagged four goals against Olympique Lyonnais during a 5-4 loss in the Rhône Valley at the weekend, has continued to develop rapidly in Ligue 1, currently sits at 17 goals this season and has a chance to crack the 20-goal barrier while improving on the 10 he hit last season for La Paillade.

Capped for France’s U21s, Wahi has been a shining light under Michel Der Zakarian as a key cog in the club’s ability to find goals in the French top flight this season, and as such, the €40m rated tactically versatile and technically gifted speedster has drawn attention from a number of clubs across the top five European leagues.

Arsenal are expected to move for a forward in the summer should they sell highly-touted young striker Folarin Balogun, while Newcastle is on the hunt for another long-term puzzle piece beyond Alexander Isak given Callum Wilson’s injury track record.

But the pair face competition from AS Monaco, as well as a trio of Bundesliga outfits in the vein of Borussia Dortmund, Eintracht Frankfurt, and RB Leipzig. Frankfurt is expected to lose Randal Kolo Muani in the summer, while both Dortmund and RBL’s penchant to secure young(er) talent could also come into play given the affordable price point.
