Tottenham’s stance on signing Gareth Bale now he is a free agent has been revealed.
Bale joined Real Madrid all the way back in 2013 for what was, at the time, a world-record fee.
The now 32-year-old has since enjoyed an up and down stint in Madrid. The Welshman scored 106 goals and provided 67 assists in 258 outings for the Spanish giants, netting some crucial goals in some big games, such as the 2018 Champions League final vs Liverpool.
And, last week, Bale confirmed that he would be leaving Los Blancos when his contract expires at the end of June.
Given Bale’s apparent lack of love for club football, it was not known if the winger would be calling time on his career this summer.
Bale was expected to stick around for the 2022 World Cup later this year if Wales qualified, but their involvement in the tournament was not confirmed until Sunday evening when they beat Ukraine in a qualifier.
Now, with Wales set to take part in a World Cup for the first time in 64 years, Bale will need a new club for the start of 2022/23 to ensure he remains match-fit.
An obvious destination for the Welshman is Tottenham. Bale made a name for himself in north London and would return to the club on loan for 2020/21.
However, the Telegraph report that Tottenham Hotspur have no plans to sign Gareth Bale for a third time as the Welshman contemplates where he will prepare for the Qatar World Cup.
