The latest on Trent Alexander-Arnold’s status for Liverpool vs Brentford

The latest on Trent Alexander-Arnold’s status for Liverpool vs Brentford

An update on the wellbeing of Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold has been provided on Monday, ahead of a busy upcoming week on the red half of Merseyside.

Salah amongst the goals

Jurgen Klopp’s men were of course back in action this past weekend.

The Reds welcomed Crystal Palace to Anfield, aiming to make it four wins from five to start the Premier League season, and keep pace with the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea at the division’s summit.

And, when all was said and done on Saturday afternoon, this is precisely what Liverpool went on to do.

A dominant display eventually culminated in a 3-0 victory, courtesy of strikes from all of Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and, in rather spectacular fashion, Naby Keita:

‘No symptoms’

One concern on an otherwise positive afternoon for Liverpool on Saturday, though, came on the personnel front.

Ahead of kick-off at Anfield, it was revealed that star defender Trent Alexander-Arnold was set to play no part, after coming down with an unspecified illness.

In turn, the English international’s participation over the coming week was immediately thrown into doubt, with the Reds set to face off with Norwich City and Brentford in the League Cup and Premier League respectively between now and Saturday.

Speaking during an interview with the club’s official website on Monday, Pep Lijnders, Jurgen Klopp’s right-hand man, was therefore asked for an update on TAA’s wellbeing.

And the Liverpool assistant went on to confirm that the stopper will play no part versus Norwich, but looks set to return to the fray in time to feature against Brentford:

‘Let’s start with Trent. Our game basically started at 12 o’clock against Palace; he took responsibility to speak with the doctor.’

‘It was not easy because these guys – it says a lot about our group anyway – they want to play everything, [even] if they feel a bit shaky or ill. But he took the responsibility.’

‘With speaking about Trent, I have to speak about Millie immediately – it started with a James Milner lecture and it ended up he dominated the complete right flank. We wanted to solve the situation with Trent with experience but we got much more.’

‘So, really proud and really happy that we have these players who can fill in, in each moment in time, and do the things he did.’

‘That’s Trent, there are no symptoms – no COVID symptoms. We test regardless. He should be fine in a few days but Norwich comes too early.’
