An insight into the future of Barcelona defender Dani Alves beyond the conclusion of the campaign has been provided on Sunday evening.
Veteran right-back Alves of course secured a surprise return to the Camp Nou this past January, joining former teammate Xavi Hernandez's Blaugrana ranks on the back of the latter's instillation as manager.
And though, at the time, the signing was viewed as more geared towards aiding the development of the younger members of Barca's squad, the weeks and months since have in fact seen Alves play an important role in the Catalan capital.
All told, the Brazilian has racked up eight appearances across all competitions, including five starts amid the club's remarkable recent resurgence.
So, what of Alves' future beyond the summer?
Well, as alluded to above, an insight into precisely that has been provided on Sunday evening.
As per a report from Mundo Deportivo, the iconic stopper's situation is 'an issue still to be resolved'.
This comes with the final call on the length of his stay set to be made by Xavi, with Barcelona's deal with Alves, currently set to expire in June, containing an option to extend through the summer of 2023.
It is understood that the wages involved would not pose a problem for the Catalans.
Sevilla next up
Turning attentions back towards the immediate job at hand of Barca, the Blaugrana, and in turn Alves, are set to mark their post-international break return to action a week from today, in a La Liga showdown with Sevilla at the Camp Nou.
Xavi and co. will head into proceedings with spirits high in the camp, no doubt confident in their chances of securing a 6th successive league victory.
This comes with the Catalan heavyweights fresh off the back of a remarkable display and ensuing result last time out, when a trip to fierce rivals Real Madrid for the latest edition of El Clasico ultimately culminated in the visitors emerging on the right side of a 4-0 scoreline.
