The latest on William Saliba’s new contract amid PSG links

An update on William Saliba’s Arsenal contract has emerged.

Reports last month claimed that Arsenal are struggling to sort out a new contract with William Saliba and PSG are monitoring developments as the centre-back enters the final year of his current deal.

Saliba is currently on a £40,000-a-week deal and whilst the Gunners are ready to offer Saliba £120,000-a-week to be their defensive rock for seasons to come, they have been shocked by the demands being made by the centre-back’s representatives and are currently nowhere near reaching an agreement.

It was added that Arsenal have no intention of letting Saliba leave this summer, however, the north Londoners are not prepared to let him run down his contract and leave as a free agent next year.

Now, a fresh update on the situation has emerged. Arsenal are confident of securing a new contract for William Saliba amid reports of a difference between the two parties at this stage of negotiations.

Journalist Ben Jacobs told GiveMeSport on Saliba: “As I’ve said many times for a year, the PSG interest [in Saliba] is very real. They’ve got one clear target, which is buy young and, where possible, buy French. But there remains high confidence, at Arsenal, that a deal will eventually get done because Saliba is settled at the club.”
