Erik ten Hag reacts in pre-match presser regarding Manchester United job

Erik ten Hag reacts in pre-match presser regarding Manchester United job

Ajax boss Erik ten Hag did everything he could to distance himself from the constant speculation that has linked him to the upcoming vacancy at Manchester United next season.

The Dutch headmaster was in final preparations to guide de Godenzonen into a clash against visiting Sparta Rotterdam today (who sit level with the Dutch giants in a 1-1 stalemate at the time of writing), as they look to secure yet another Eredivisie title to add to their massive trophy haul across club history.

But despite previously being labeled as the frontrunning candidate, which saw rumors emerge that the club are looking to prioritize summer moves for Harry Kane and Declan Rice to give an immediate boost to the first-team squad upon his potential arrival, ten Hag refused to discuss the United posting and remains focused on the task at hand at Ajax as referenced by insider Fabrizio Romano.

It is perhaps understandable that ten Hag reacted in the manner that he did given the gravity of the current situation in the Dutch top flight as Ajax sit just four points ahead of bitter rivals PSV Eindhoven and with every chance that they could let their points-lead slip before the closing of the current campaign.

United falls to struggling Everton; further evidence change is needed

Despite the banter that swirled around Twitter regarding ten Hag’s reaction during his presser, and the timing that came with it, the 1-0 loss that Manchester United suffered at the hands of Frank Lampard’s relegation-threatened Everton was further proof of why a managerial change is so desperately needed.

The Red Devils were dominant in all data departments as expected in visiting Goodison Park earlier today, but that was hardly good enough to get one over on the Toffees on their home patch, who can thank Anthony Gordon’s goal in the 27th-minute.

It was another frustrating performance under German tactician Ralf Rangnick that has now seen United win just one of their last five in the Premier League (1-2-2), with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Marcus Rashford, and Aaron Wan-Bissaka failing to show up as required.

Though United still have every mathematical chance of finishing in the top-four by the end of the season, the reminders of how frustrating the 2021-22 term has been at the Theatre of Dreams have become far too common.
