Ten Hag provides Martial update ahead of Manchester United vs Real Sociedad

Erik ten Hag spoke to the media on Wednesday morning ahead of Manchester United’s next outing.

Manchester United will begin their European campaign on Thursday evening. Erik ten Hag and co. will face off with Real Sociedad at 8 pm UK time at Old Trafford.

Manchester United have been drawn in Group G for the 2022/23 Europa League, alongside the aforementioned Real Sociedad, Sheriff and Omania.

It is a group United are almost certainly set to qualify from, but the fight for top spot is likely to be fought between the two teams squaring off in Manchester on Thursday.

Manchester United have improved a great deal since their opening two games of the season, most recently beating Arsenal 3-1 in a Premier League clash.

Sociedad, though, are a solid team and have already managed to clinch a 1-1 draw with Atletico Madrid – the side who knocked Manchester United out of the Champions League last season.

Ahead of the tie, Ten Hag has been discussing a number of topics in his pre-match presser.

He also responded to Eric Bailly’s recent comments: “I can not say about that. I was not in charge last season. Not for me [nationality deciding selections].”

On Tuchel being sacked, he added: “I feel sorry, but there is nothing I can say. It’s Chelsea, not Man United. It’s early in the season, yes.”

Ten Hag then provided an insight into his decision to keep starting Scott McTominay despite Casemiro joining: “You can see it like that, when the team is acting well, we have more than 11 players, then you stay in.

“The team is improving, it’s getting better, but for the players that aren’t in the team, they can come in at any moment and maybe do better than the players that are in. I know that you need more than 11 players. We have a really good bench.”
