Sunderland clinch loan agreement for Leeds United striker

Championship outfit Sunderland have won the race for the signature of an out-of-favour member of the attacking ranks at Leeds United, according to reports.

The Whites star primed to take his talents to the Stadium of Light over the days ahead? Joe Gelhardt.

Hitman Gelhardt, of course, has long been viewed as a potential star in the making amongst those of a Leeds persuasion.

In turn, after emerging from the bench to stellar effect on a number of occasions last term, and with Patrick Bamford continuing to struggle for both form and fitness, the 20-year-old was tipped to kick on, to establish himself as a central figure in west Yorkshire across the 2022/2023 campaign.

This, however, has since proven to be far from the case.

Sitting firmly behind Rodrigo Moreno in the pecking order of boss Jesse Marsch, Gelhardt, all told, has notched a paltry single league start, failing to find the net in any capacity across all competitions.

In turn, as alluded to above, Gelhardt is all set to take his talents to the Championship, with Sunderland.

As confirmed by a host of sources late on Thursday evening, the youngster has agreed to link up with Tony Mowbray’s troops on loan, for the 2nd half of the season.

Gelhardt will now be expected to play an important role in the Black Cats’ promotion playoff push, joining fellow Premier League loanee Amad Diallo in an exciting frontline at the Stadium of Light.
