Real Madrid dealt alarming injury blow ahead of Barcelona showdown

Spanish giants Real Madrid have, on Sunday, been left to sweat over the wellbeing of a key member of the club’s first-team squad.

The player in question? Thibaut Courtois.

Shot-stopper Courtois, of course, departed Spain’s capital earlier this week, to link up with the Belgian national team for the international break.

After featuring from the off in the Red Devils’ three-goal drubbing of Sweden on Friday, however, he has since been sent back to base in Madrid.

This comes after it was revealed that Courtois had suffered an injury, in the form of an adductor strain.

There is hope that the problem will only prove to be a minor one, but as much will not be established until Monday, when the former Chelsea man is set to undergo a round of medical scans.

Should Courtois ultimately be forced into any sort of extended spell on the sidelines, it would mark a heavy blow for Real, ahead of an upcoming Copa del Rey semi-final 2nd leg showdown with Barcelona, and a Champions League quarter-final double header with Chelsea.
