Ramsdale reveals how Mikel Arteta inspired Arsenal win over Newcastle

Aaron Ramsdale has been discussing what Mikel Arteta said to the Arsenal players before facing Newcastle.

Arsenal faced off with Newcastle on Sunday afternoon, knowing they needed a win to keep their fading title hopes alive.

When all was said and done, a Martin Odegaard strike and an own goal from Fabian Schar was enough to hand Arsenal a 2-0 win.

This is a far contrast from Arsenal’s trip to St James’ at the back end of last season.

The north Londoners lost that tie 2-0 and went on to miss out on the top-four to Tottenham.

And Aaron Ramsdale revealed after the match on Sunday that Mikel Arteta used that game as motivation to pick up the win this time around:

“It wasn’t mentioned until the meeting before we left the hotel,” he told Sky Sports. “The manager showed us a clip of the documentary last year, showed us all of our faces and staff included, showed how hurt we were feeling. We had the burning desire that it wouldn’t be the same today.

“It might not be [enjoyable in the atmosphere] for everyone else but I really enjoy it. There is nothing else you can ask for for fans to be screaming for one team, then our away fans packing out the away end.”
