Ralf Rangnick speaks out over Manchester United captaincy rift reports

Manchester United will face off with Leeds United at Elland Road on Sunday afternoon.

Ahead of the game, Ralf Rangnick would hold his pre-match press conference on Friday.

The German discussed a number of topics in his exchange with the media, including recent reports regarding a rift between Harry Maguire and Cristiano Ronaldo over the United captaincy.

Rangnick, though, was quick to dismiss such rumours, stating: “This is absolutely nonsense.

“I have never spoken to any player about a chance in captaincy, Harry is aware of that and Cristiano. It’s me who decides who is captain and I don’t have to talk to anyone else about that.

Rangnick added later in the press conference: “I’m not frustrated because it’s not the truth. Harry is the captain, it’s not an issue and hasn’t been an issue.

“My full focus is preparing the team in training for the next game. I have heard what is written I can only tell you from my personal experience. There were players unhappy until the close of the window because the squad was too big and players weren’t getting game time.

“The atmosphere in the dressing room is better than it was a few weeks ago for that reason. It’s about performing well, togetherness on the pitch and winning games. They are the things we can influence.”

Leeds vs Manchester United

Manchester United head into the Leeds United game on a fairly mixed run of form.

The Red Devils did beat Brighton 2-0 in their last outing, which is a solid result considering what a solid team the Seagulls have become under Graham Potter.

However, before that win, United had drawn with Southampton and Burnley, as well as being knocked out of the FA Cup by Middlesbrough.

Leeds, though, are not exactly in the best of form themselves, and have shipped seven goals in their last three outings.
