Premier League pair among five clubs chasing Paul Pogba summer deal

Paul Pogba is out of contract this summer, and seems destined for a future away from Old Trafford come the end of the season.

The Frenchman has struggled since his record move back to Manchester in 2016, and has failed to nail down a position in a midfield consisting of Scott McTominay, Fred, and Nemanja Matic, often put out on the left flank by former boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

And, with no clear path forward for the 29-year-old in Manchester, it seems as though his next move will be away from the club where he grew up. It could, however, be towards another in the English top flight, with Sky Sports reporting that two unnamed Premier League clubs have enquired about the Frenchman ahead of a potential summer swoop.

They will face competition from Juventus, who want to completely rebuild their midfield and would welcome Pogba back to Turin, while Real Madrid, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain are also all thought to be keen on offering the World Cup winner a chance to revitalise his career.

What has Paul Pogba said?

Speaking ahead of France's friendly fixtures this international break against Ivory Coast and South Africa, Pogba has already taken a swipe at Manchester United, claiming that their season is 'dead'.

When quizzed on his future, he told the media that “this year, it [the season] is dead, we won’t win anything yet. Whether it’s with Manchester United or at another club, I want to win trophies.”

Pogba then proceeded to suggest that he plays better for France because he knows his role and has confidence in both the coach and his teammates: “Here [with the French team], I have a lot more playing time, the system is different than in a club. In fact, it’s simple, at the Blues, I play, and, in addition, at my post. I know my role, I feel the confidence of the coach, the players.”

“It’s normal to feel this difference with Man United, because it’s hard to be consistent when you often change position, game system or partners.”

While Manchester United fans will likely not be too sorry to see the back of the midfielder, it will represent a major financial loss for the club should he walk for free in the summer, and could save his future club masses of money.
