Police investigating alleged headbutt on Manchester United legend Roy Keane during Arsenal game

An investigation has been opened following Manchester United’s loss to Arsenal.

Police are investigating after an Arsenal fan allegedly tried to headbutt Sky Sports pundit Roy Keane at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

The man allegedly aimed a headbutt at Keane but did not inflict any serious physical damage on the former Manchester United midfielder.

Video footage on social media showed Keane’s Sky Sports colleague Micah Richards grappling with the man to restrain him.

Following the incident, a number of bodies have released statements.

A Metropolitan Police statement said: “Police are investigating following an assault that is alleged to have occurred at the Emirates Stadium during an Arsenal v Manchester United match on Sunday. There have been no arrests. Enquiries are ongoing.”

Sky said in a statement: “We understand the police are investigating an alleged assault by a member of the public immediately preceding the footage circulating on social media. In the footage seen, Micah Richards was acting to defuse a situation.”

An Arsenal spokesperson said: “We are aware of an incident that took place during our match against Manchester United on Sunday. The Metropolitan Police are conducting an investigation into the matter and we are fully cooperating with their enquiries.”
