Official: Graham Potter sacked by Chelsea

The news which Chelsea supporters across the globe had been less-than-patiently awaiting has, late on Sunday, finally been made official.

This comes in the form of confirmation that under-fire head coach Graham Potter has been dismissed with immediate effect.

In a post across the club’s website and social media platforms a short time ago, the Blues announced that:

‘Chelsea FC has announced that Graham Potter has departed the club. Graham has agreed to collaborate with the Club to facilitate a smooth transition. In his time with the club, Graham has taken us to the quarter final of the Champions League, where we will face Real Madrid. Chelsea would like to thank Graham for all his efforts and contribution and wish him well for the future.’

Potter, of course, was only installed in the dugout at Stamford Bridge in September of last year, on the back of the departure of Thomas Tuchel.

Calls for his head, however, had been widespread across west London over the course of the last couple of months.

A 2-0 home defeat to Aston Villa on Saturday, in turn, proved the straw which broke the camel’s back for Todd Boehly and the Chelsea powers that be.

Potter departs with the capital club sitting inside the bottom half of the Premier League table, albeit having booked their spot in the quarter-finals of the Champions League, ahead of a crunch double-header with competition holders Real Madrid.
