Norwich vs Chelsea betting tips: Premier League match preview & predictions

Norwich vs Chelsea prediction: Norwich 1-2 Chelsea

They have had some tough fixtures, but the beginning of the Frank Lampard era at Chelsea has not quite gone to plan.

The Blues are still searching for their first win of the season so will it come at Carrow Road?

It won’t be easy as they’ll be facing a Norwich side buoyant after they got off the mark last weekend.

Who will come out on top in Norfolk?

Norwich City vs Chelsea: Who will win?

Norwich haven’t won any of their last 15 meetings with Chelsea, their last victory coming in 1994, and they are 3/1 to change that.

A draw is also 3/1.

Over 2.5 goals is 4/7.

Christian Pulisic is still awaiting his first Chelsea goal. The USA captain is 7/1 to score first and 23/10 to net anytime.

Norwich’s first home Premier League game since 2016 was certainly worth the wait.

They suffered a reality check on the opening day though as they travelled to Anfield.

A fortnight ago, the Canaries found themselves 4-0 down at half time on their Premier League return.

Teemu Pukki did pull one back in the second half as the match on Merseyside finished 4-1.

That goal also meant he’s scored with his first shot on target in each of the last eight seasons.

Last weekend though, it really was the Teemu Pukki show.

The Finn scored a hat-trick as Norwich easily beat Newcastle 3-1 at Carrow Road.

He’s the first Norwich player to score a Premier League hat-trick since Efan Ekoku in 1993.

Also, Daniel Farke is the first Norwich manager to win his first Premier League home game since 1992.

He will be delighted with the start his side have made so can they cause a big shock and get another win on the board?

Can Frank Lampard get his first win?

As for Chelsea, it’s fair to say it has not been the start Frank Lampard was looking for.

The Blues’ season began with that 4-0 mauling at Old Trafford against Manchester United.

They did play well in parts of that game but it was their biggest opening day defeat for 104 years.

Then, they were in Istanbul for the UEFA Super Cup where they met Liverpool.

Olivier Giroud opened the scoring but Mané’s equaliser forced extra time.

Mané then put Liverpool ahead before Jorginho’s spot-kick forced a penalty shootout.

The first nine penalties were all converted before Tammy Abraham saw his effort saved.

It was Liverpool who left Beşiktaş Stadium with the trophy.

Then Sunday saw Lampard’s first home game in charge as Leicester City visited Stamford Bridge.

Mason Mount opened the scoring after just nine minutes as, for the third game running, Chelsea started really fast.

But, once again, they faded in the second half and Leicester equalised and probably should’ve left with more than just the 1-1.

That draw does mean that Frank Lampard is the first Chelsea manager to fail to win any of his first three games in charge since Rafa Benítez mid-way through the 2012/13 season.

This game should represent a great chance for them to finally get that first win, so will they do just that?

After an outstanding performance last weekend, Daniel Farke is expected to name the same side that started against Newcastle.

Goalkeeper Tim Krul is one of just two players who started on the opening day who had ever played in the Premier League before.

The other, Grant Hanley, scored an own goal just seven minutes into that trip to Anfield.

Nevertheless, they are the two experienced heads at the back as Max Aarons, Ben Godfrey and Jamal Lewis are all 21 or younger.

Centre-backs Timm Klose and Christoph Zimmermann are both currently injured.

The only change from the Liverpool game came in midfield where Moritz Leitner was preferred to Kenny McLean.

Local hero Todd Cantwell, Marco Stiepermann and Emi Buendía will make up the more attacking trio.

Mario Vrančić, Onel Hernández and Paddy Robers will all be on the bench.

As will Josip Drmić, who is still awaiting his Norwich debut but has only played an average of just 584 club minutes per season since 2015.

Up front, Teemu Pukki is currently the Premier League’s joint-top goalscorer with four.

Can he add another in this one?

They’re certainly capable so can Norwich beat this struggling Chelsea team?

As for Chelsea, the majority of the XI appears to pick itself.

As always, Kepa Arrizabalaga will be in goal.

He kept 23 clean sheets in 54 Chelsea appearances last season but is yet to register one in three matches this season.

The back four has been the same for all three matches so far.

Emerson Palmieri is the first choice left-back ahead of Marcos Alonso.

On the other side, there is no one to challenge César Azpilicueta just now with Reece James out injured.

Similarly, when Antonio Rüdiger is fit he’ll provide competition for Andreas Christensen and Kurt Zouma, more than Fikayo Tomori is doing.

In midfield, just like Sarri last season, Lampard views Jorginho as integral.

He’s expected to line-up alongside N’Golo Kanté in a 4-2-3-1.

In a game Chelsea will look to dominate, Mateo Kovačić may not start, allowing a more attacking player to play.

That’s likely to be Mason Mount.

Last weekend he became the first English player to score for Chelsea under an English manager since Dennis Wise under Glenn Hoddle in May 1996.

Out-wide, Christian Pulisic and Pedro appear to be first choice ahead of Willian; Callum Hudson-Odoi could be back soon.

Up front, after hitting the post at Old Trafford and missing a penalty in Turkey, Tammy Abraham has been taken out of the side.

Olivier Giroud was excellent against Liverpool and Leicester, particularly in the first half of both, and will lead the line once more.

Will Carrow Road provide the setting for Lampard’s first win as Chelsea manager?
