Newcastle United vs Manchester City betting tips: Premier League match preview & predictions

Newcastle vs Manchester City prediction: Newcastle 1-3 Manchester City

Manchester City have not won in their last two matches on the road in all competitions. Realistically, they’ll need all three points on Saturday to keep their feint title hopes alive.

Newcastle won’t be pushovers. They’re unbeaten in their last five Premier League matches at St. James’ Park.

Newcastle vs Manchester City: Who will win?

Man City have won 23 of their last 27 matches. Manchester City are 1/6 favourites to win the match while a Newcastle win is priced at 13/1. The draw can be backed at 7/1.

There have been three or more goals scored in 12 of Man City’s last 14 games. Bet on over 2.5 goals scored at 4/9.

Gabriel Jesus will lead the line on Saturday in Sergio Aguero’s absence. Jesus is 3/1 to open the scoring and 8/13 to score anytime.

Newcastle vs Manchester City Premier League match preview

Gameweek 14 kicks off at St. James’ Park on Saturday afternoon as Newcastle United host Premier League champions Manchester City.

Newcastle’s three-match unbeaten run came to an end on Monday night. Steve Bruce’s side put in a meek performance at Villa Park and lost 2-0.

The defeat sees Newcastle drop down to 14th place, five points above the relegation zone.

Newcastle look a lot more resilient at home, even if goals have been hard to come by. Leicester City (3) are the only side to concede fewer goals at home than the Magpies (4).

Manchester City bounced back from their defeat at Liverpool to beat Chelsea 2-1 at the Etihad last weekend. City went behind early on but were soon back on top thanks to goals from Kevin de Bruyne and Riyad Mahrez. Last weekend’s win saw City leapfrog Chelsea back into third place, but they remain nine points adrift of leaders Liverpool.

City were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League on Tuesday night. Ilkay Gundogan scored the goal for the home side. The point is enough to ensure Man City win Group C, with a game to spare.

City have the fourth-best away record in the league this season, winning four of their six matches.

These two sides have met 38 times in the Premier League. City have won 23 and lost eight against Newcastle.

Newcastle won last season’s corresponding fixture 2-1 in January, a game that almost derailed City’s season. Sergio Aguero opened the scoring in the first minute but Newcastle turned the game on its head with second-half goals from Salomon Rondon and Matt Ritchie.

Newcastle team news vs Manchester City

Steve Bruce is expected to field five at the back for the visit of Manchester City, but Jamaal Lascelles will not be one of those five. The Newcastle captain will be sidelined for another month or so with a leg injury.

Florian Lejeune comes back into contention after a lengthy injury, although he may have to settle for a spot on the bench. Fabian Schar could return to the starting eleven to shore up Newcastle’s defence.

Sean Longstaff is available after serving a suspension. He is expected to slot straight back into midfield but faces fresh competition from Jonjo Shelvey and Isaac Hayden.

Matty Longstaff was an unused substitute at Villa Park and will be hoping for some minutes on Saturday.

Manchester City team news vs Newcastle

Gabriel Jesus will lead the line following the injury Sergio Aguero picked up against Chelsea.

Leroy Sane remains sidelined with a knee injury, as do Aymeric Laporte and Oleksandr Zinchenko.

Bernardo Silva returns following a one-match suspension and could replace Riyad Mahrez on the right – despite the Algerian’s winner against Chelsea.

Competition for the full-back spots is high. Joao Cancelo appears to be above Kyle Walker in Guardiola’s pecking order, but after playing the full 90 against Shakhtar, he may have to make way.

Angelino also started in midweek, so Benjamin Mendy should be given the nod at left-back on Saturday.

Fernandinho is expected to continue filling in at centre-back, although Nicolas Otamendi is available.
