Newcastle United announce first signing of January window

Premier League high-flyers Newcastle United have, on Sunday evening, confirmed the first winter addition to boss Eddie Howe’s ranks.

The latest player to have linked up with the Magpies ahead of the 2nd half of the campaign? Anthony Gordon.

Wide-man Gordon, of course, has seen his name take its place front and centre across the English media headlines over the course of the week to date.

This comes with the 21-year-old, after seeing a potential move to Chelsea fall through during the summer, having taken matters into his own hands in efforts to secure a departure from Everton.

Amid long-standing interest from the aforementioned Newcastle in his services, Gordon refused to report for training this week, essentially forcing the hands of the powers that be at Goodison Park.

In turn, late on Sunday evening, it has come as little surprise to hear of the talented attacker’s move to Tyneside being made official.

As confirmed in a series of posts across the club’s social media platforms, Newcastle have signed Gordon from Everton, for an initial fee understood to be in the region of £40 million:

‘Newcastle United are delighted to announce the signing of Anthony Gordon for an undisclosed fee.

‘The 21-year-old winger joins the Magpies from Everton and has penned a long-term deal at St. James’ Park.’
