Newcastle lining up £45 million for Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze

Newly minted Newcastle United are lining up an audacious £45 million move for Crystal Palace talent Eberechi Eze come the summer.

According to The Sun, the Magpies failed to add Eze in January despite making an offer of around 5 million pounds to take him on loan until the end of the season, with the club having then been willing to pay £35 million to make the deal permanent.

And, though Newcastle ended up with five new faces, Eze's was not one of them, and the Palace man stayed put.

But for how long? The Sun claim that Eddie Howe and co. will make the Englishman one of their top targets as they look to recruit with an eye to the long term should they beat the drop, which is looking increasingly likely.

And that interest could formulate itself into a mammoth bid for Eze, thought to be around the £45 million mark, with it added that 'Palace could be tempted to more than double their money on a player they signed from QPR 18 months ago for £17m'.

How did Newcastle do in January?

As previously mentioned, Newcastle added 5 new faces in January: Chris Wood joined to bolster their forward line and Bruno Guimaraes was added to their midfield. It was defence that was the priority, however, as Matt Targett, Dan Burn and Kieran Trippier all joined the club.

It has had the desired effect, too, with the club having won their last three games and now remaining unbeaten in 5. With the money at their disposal, should Newcastle recruit smartly and add players like Eze to their ranks, they could become a force to be reckoned with sooner than anticipated.
