Mo Salah speaks out over Liverpool contract negotiations

Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has, on Friday, provided a fresh insight into his ongoing contract negotiations with the club.

The subject of Egyptian international Salah's future has of course come back to the fore in a major way of late.

This comes with the former AS Roma standout, in the midst of another stellar campaign to date, yet to agree to terms to extend his contract at Anfield beyond the summer of 2023.

The initial assumption across the media upon negotiations being opened between the two parties was that a renewal was something of a formality, but this has since proven far from the case.

Salah, in turn, has even been tipped for a potential summer exit, with a host of European football's biggest clubs understood to be keeping a close eye on the situation.

Speaking in an interview with Sky Sports on Friday afternoon, it therefore came as little surprise when the subject of his contract talks with Liverpool was put to Salah himself.

The 29-year-old, though, was keen to keep his cards close to his chest, instead shifting focus towards the crucial couple of months awaiting Jurgen Klopp and co. in the season's run-in.

"I talk to the manager, I know my job very well", Salah explained. "I am almost the first one here and the last one to leave. I know what I am doing. I am just focusing on the team. That is the most important thing - to win trophies for this club."

"I can't be selfish now and talk about my situation. We're in the most important period of the season for the team. I focus on what's coming for the team."

Etihad showdown

Salah, of course, will be expected to feature from the off this weekend, when Liverpool make the trip to the Etihad, for what has been widely labelled as a Premier League 'title decider' with Manchester City.

As things stand, the two sides are separated by just a solitary point in the race for the English top-flight title, with Pep Guardiola's champions boasting the advantage in top spot.

Liverpool, though, will no doubt be confident in their chances of leapfrogging the Sky Blues come the final whistle on Sunday evening, fresh off the back of a 3-1 downing of Benfica in midweek making it an eye-watering 17 wins from their last 18 outings across all competitions.
