Mikel Arteta provides Arsenal injury update ahead of new season

Mikel Arteta has provided an injury update on his squad following Arsenal’s latest win.

The Gunners faced off with Everton at the M & T Bank Stadium in Baltimore, Maryland, in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Arsenal headed into the game looking to make it two wins from two in pre-season, and were able to do exactly that thanks to goals from Gabriel Jesus and Bukayo Saka.

And, following the match, Mikel Arteta discussed a number of topics, including team news:

“We had Kieran [Tierney] with a slight problem, we had Emile [Smith Rowe] as well with a muscular niggle, Tomiyasu as well and Ben [White],” said the Arsenal boss.

“The rest of them are fine, but it’s a matter of days with them.”

On White, it was added that: “He had a niggle in his quad and we had to protect him, but he trained with the squad yesterday, so hopefully he will be alright.”

New signing Fabio Vieira is another on the sidelines. The Portugal under-21 international was spotted in a protective boot a couple of weeks ago, and is still working his way back to full fitness.

“He had a slight problem in his bone,” confirmed Arteta. “Hopefully he will start to train in the next week or so.”

Elsewhere, Arsenal's head coach hinted that the Gunners' hunt for a striker is over, stating that Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah have everything his side need:

“They have everything that we need,” said Arteta. “First of all they are really intense, both of them. They way they can press, the way they can sustain pressure with the opponent is great.

“Both of them can thread it in behind which allows people to have spaces inside. They are really good in link up play and both have an eye for goal, which is what the 9s do. But they are not just 9s, they have all the qualities for the way we play, they are fantastic.”
