Chelsea star Mason Mount has agreed personal terms over a move to Manchester United this summer, with the Red Devils squad expecting him to join up with them in pre-season as the two clubs discuss a potential fee for the 24-year-old.
Mount, whose future has been up in the air after he rejected a new contract, is out of contract in 2024 as things stand, though new boss Mauricio Pochettino was keen to work with the Englishman.
It has led to interest from Arsenal, Manchester United, Liverpool and Bayern Munich in the midfielder, who has not played since the beginning of April thanks to a groin injury.
Jurgen Klopp’s side were initially thought to be in the driving seat to land the Englishman, but that has changed in the past fortnight and Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United are now firm favourites to complete a deal, with Mount himself favouring a move to Old Trafford over the other options.
According to the Telegraph, ‘Manchester United have agreed personal terms with Mason Mount and are now expected to sign the Chelsea midfielder’, and though the two sides remain some way apart on their valuation of the midfielder, ‘ten Hag is confident he can persuade the 24-year-old to join and is pushing the club’s hierarchy to get the deal over the line’.
Despite having just one year left on his deal, Chelsea are aiming to hold out for in excess of £70m, while United are keen to keep the deal below £60m, with plenty of other transfer business to conduct before the new season and financial uncertainty surrounding the club amid a potential ownership change.
United, meanwhile, are keen to add at least another striker to their ranks, though they could also make moves for a goalkeeper and right back to further plug gaps in their squad.
