Manchester United vs Crystal Palace prediction: Manchester United 4-0 Crystal Palace

It’s been a decent start to the season for Ole Gunnar Solskjær and Manchester United.

They’re still unbeaten but will be looking to get back to winning ways here.

Crystal Palace meanwhile could be the ideal opponents for them as they are in a bit of mess right now.

Will it be a routine home win at Old Trafford?

As expected, Manchester United are overwhelming favourites at 1/3 to win this one.

It’s fair to say Ole Gunnar Solskjær would have taken the four points his side currently has but it could have been so much more.

On the opening day, a brace from Rashford as well as goals from Martial and James saw Manchester United blow Chelsea away in a 4-0 win.

Then, on Monday night, they travelled to Molineux, a ground they lost at twice last spring.

Mid-way through the first half, a superb finish from Anthony Martial put the Red Devils in front.

However, just after the interval, Wolves equalised thanks to a Neves special from long-range.

But, later on, Manchester United were awarded a penalty and a chance to win the game.

After some discussions, Paul Pogba was given the responsibilities despite the fact Rashford had kept up his 100% record just eight days earlier.

The Frenchman took the spot-kick but saw his effort smartly saved.

1-1 it finished and that penalty was the topic of discussion at the end of the game.

Pogba has missed four of the 11 penalties he’s taken since the start of last season; no player has missed more spot-kicks in that time.

Solskjær clarified afterwards that his side has two designated penalty takers and that there was no disharmony between the two.

It will be interesting to see, if they do get a penalty in this game, who would be the man to take it.

Even so, Manchester United should win this one and turn a decent start into a very good one.

Can Crystal Palace cause a huge shock?

As for Crystal Palace, all the pre-season fears surrounding them have so far come to fruition.

On the opening day, they were involved in a pretty uneventful 0-0 draw at home to Everton.

Then, last Sunday, they slumped to a 1-0 defeat at Sheffield United in a game they thoroughly deserved to lose.

Only Manchester City have scored more goals away from home in the Premier League in 2019 than Palace’s 20.

However, they’re yet to score a goal this season and all the people who thought the Eagles could struggle this season have so far been proved right.

Next weekend they host Aston Villa in what could already be a massive game.

First though, they’ll look to get their first goal and first win of the season in Manchester.

Palace last won at Old Trafford in a league game in 1989.

That stat is unlikely to change in this one.

The XI Ole Gunnar Solskjær put out at Wolves was the club’s youngest in a league game since the final day of the 2016/17 campaign, against Crystal Palace.

He’s expected to name the same side although, this time, they won’t break any records as they’re all five days older.

As ever, David de Gea will be in goal.

He’s already made eight saves this season, the third most in the division.

It’ll be the same back four for the third game out of three.

The two new signings have both impressed so far.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka has made the most tackles (15) and Harry Maguire has made the joint-third most clearances (13) in the league to date.

In midfield, on Monday night Andreas Pereira dropped out with the more attack minded Dan James coming in.

That alteration moved Jesse Lingard into a more central area.

It’s expected to be the same again.

Marcus Rashford will begin on the left with Anthony Martial through the middle.

At Molineux, Martial became the 53rd player to score 50 goals in all competitions for Manchester United.

He’s also Manchester United’s top scorer since his debut on 12 September 2015.

Will Martial fire his team to back to back home wins?

As for Crystal Palace, Roy Hodgson has some big decisions to make after an abject performance at Bramall Lane.

Goalkeeper Vicente Guaita is one of very few who can be sure of a place in the XI for this one.

In defence, they’re still without Mamadou Sakho and James Tomkins so Martin Kelly will have no choice but to fill in at centre-back.

They do have Gary Cahill who’s still awaiting his debut but it would be a big call to throw him in at the deep end.

Joel Ward will continue at right-back after Wan-Bisska moved to Manchester United.

In midfield, James McArthur and Luka Milivojević are the first choice duo.

That’s despite the presence of Cheikhou Kouyaté and new recruits Víctor Camarasa and James McCarthy.

Up front, can Zaha cause his old side problems?

He has scored six goals in his last eight away Premier League games.

In fact, of players to score more than five goals in the Premier League last season, Zaha scored the highest percentage of them away from home (90%).

He’ll be alongside Christian Benteke who is not in such good form.

In fact, the Belgian has scored just four goals in his last 50 Premier League appearances.

Can this Crystal Palace side spring a surprise?

It seems very very unlikely.
