Manchester United ‘make contact’ with Antoine Griezmann – Independent

Where will Griezmann end up?

Manchester United have reportedly made contact with Antoine Griezmann, as Barcelona remain unsure whether or not to sign the Frenchman.

Griezmann announced recently that he would leave Atletico Madrid during the summer.

Speaking in a video on social media, Griezmann admitted that it was the right time for him to move on.

“The truth is it has been difficult to take this route but it is what I feel I need and I would like to thank all of you for the love you have shown me during these five years,” he explained in the video.

While he was expected by many to join Barcelona shortly after, a move has not yet come to fruition.

Now, the reasons behind that have been revealed.

Man United looking to steal a march on Barcelona

According to a report from the Independent’s Miguel Delaney, the leadership of Barcelona ‘are not unanimous’ over a move.

The report continues by explaining that some at Barcelona feel the money ‘could be better spent elsewhere’.

As a result of Barcelona’s hesitance, the Independent also reveal that Manchester United have joined the race to sign Griezmann.

According to their report, ‘communication has been re-established with United, and a deal is possible’.

They even go as far as to claim that some ‘key figures in European football’ believe Man United is Griezmann’s most likely destination.

Finally, their report claims that signing Griezmann could be key in keeping Paul Pogba at Old Trafford, due to the pair’s relationship off the pitch.
