Manchester United ‘closing in’ on French international as first summer signing

Manchester United are reportedly set to make Monaco centre-back Axel Disasi their first signing of the summer, with reports in France claiming that the club are ‘closing in’ on the defender.

The Red Devils are expected to add another defender to their ranks this summer, with Harry Maguire likely to leave the club in search of first team football and Victor Lindelof’s future up in the air as he weighs up his next move, with the Swede firmly second choice to preferred pairing Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane at Old Trafford.

According to French outlet L’equipe, the man that Erik ten Hag has identified to fill that gap is Monaco’s Disasi, with the 25-year-old having impressed in Ligue 1 in recent seasons. Taken to the World Cup as part of Didier Deschamps’ squad, the Frenchman has bags of experience with over 200 professional outings to his name and, according to the latest reports, is ‘opting to join the Red Devils’.

They add that ‘the two clubs are yet to begin formal negotiations’ but that a fee of between 40 and 50m euros is expected to be agreed upon by the two sides, and that Manchester United will have ‘no issue in paying’ that amount for his services.

Should the move go through, it will likely signal the end of their interest in Napoli star Kim Min Jae but will certainly not be the end of the Red Devils’ transfer business, with Mason Mount in talks over a potential move to Old Trafford and a striker also high on the list of priorities.

Beyond that, they are also expected to add another central midfielder and a goalkeeper in what could turn out to be a very busy summer for Erik ten Hag’s side.
