Lionel Messi to miss PSG’s meeting with Lorient

The Argentine is suffering with an Achilles problem

Paris Saint-Germain superstar Lionel Messi is set to play no part in the club’s upcoming latest outing this weekend, it has been confirmed.

Christophe Galtier’s troops are set to mark their return to the pitch on Sunday afternoon.

Fresh off a hard-fought downing of Juventus in Turin in midweek, the French champions will turn their attentions back towards matters on the domestic front, in a Ligue 1 meeting with Lorient.

A three-point haul at the Stade du Moustoir would see the visitors reestablish their five-point advantage at the summit of the French top-flight, after high-flying Lens continued their own stellar stretch of form courtesy of a two-goal triumph at Angers on Saturday.

As alluded to above, though, any such efforts on PSG’s part will come without the services of one of the club’s star performers.

The player in question? Lionel Messi.

And, this evening, a statement across PSG’s official website and social media platforms saw the 7-time Ballon d’Or winner’s impending absence confirmed:

‘Lionel Messi will remain in treatment for an inflamed Achilles tendon as a precautionary measure. He will resume training next week.’

All of Keylor Navas, Presnel Kimpembe and Fabian Ruiz are also set to sit out the action at the Stade du Moustoir.
