Preview for Scotland v Switzerland

Scotland welcome Switzerland to Hampden Park on Tuesday night for a matchday two clash in League B Group 1 of the UEFA Nations League.

The hosts have one point from their opening game, while Switzerland sit top of the group after beginning their campaign with a 3-0 win over North Macedonia.

Steve Clarke stepped down as Scotland manager after the World Cup, with Sebastien Pocognoli appointed as his successor.

The Belgian’s first game in charge ended in a goalless draw against Slovenia on Saturday, although Scotland produced enough chances to take encouragement from the performance.

Pocognoli will now face a much tougher test against Switzerland and will want Scotland to produce another positive performance while being more clinical in front of goal.

Switzerland were also relegated from League A in the previous Nations League campaign after finishing bottom of Group 4 with just two points from six matches.

Switzerland progressed from their World Cup group with seven points before defeating Algeria and Colombia in the knockout rounds.

Their campaign eventually ended against Argentina in the quarter-finals, where Switzerland conceded twice in extra time after being reduced to 10 men.

Team News for Scotland v Switzerland

Pocognoli could stick with much of the side that drew with Slovenia, although the Scotland boss may consider changes in attack after his team failed to score.

Oli McBurnie and Robbie Ure both missed good opportunities in the opening match, potentially opening the door for Kieron Bowie to come into the starting XI.

Bowie could partner McBurnie, with John McGinn operating behind the front two.

Switzerland will once again be without Breel Embolo, who is suspended following his red card at the World Cup.

Amdouni took advantage of Embolo’s absence against North Macedonia, scoring twice and setting up another goal, and should retain his place up front.

Scotland v Switzerland kicks off at 7:45pm BST on Tuesday, September 29, with the match being shown live on BBC Two in the UK. The game will also be available to stream live on BBC iPlayer.

Prediction for Scotland v Switzerland

Scotland showed enough against Slovenia to suggest they can make life difficult for Switzerland, but the visitors arrive with greater momentum after their 3-0 win over North Macedonia.

Switzerland also have several players capable of punishing Scotland if they are given space, while Amdouni’s form gives Yakin’s side another attacking threat.
