Lionel Messi runs the rule on PSG goals and hails ‘beast’ Kylian Mbappe

The Argentine was speaking while on international duty

Lionel Messi has spoken out on his partnerships with Kylian Mbappe and Neymar, as well as revealed the Paris Saint Germain goal for the season, in a recent interview whilst on international duty.

The Argentine has begun the season in fine form, with four goals and seven assists already to his name after just eight Ligue 1 outings, a return that has sees his side sit top of the division.

But, speaking to A Bola, he revealed that it is the Champions League, not Ligue 1, that the Parisians have their eye on this season in what would be a debut win in the competition. They were beaten finalists in 2020, and were knocked out in the semi-final in 2021 before losing in the round of 16 to Real Madrid last season.

And that is a record they are determined to put right.

“We’ve been wanting to win the Champions League for a long time”, Messi explained. “Last year’s elimination was very difficult, the way it happened. We had played two great games against Real Madrid and in the details we failed.”

The Barcelona legend was also quizzed on his fellow two stars at the Parc des Princes, and was glowing in his praise of French striker Kylian Mbappe.

“Mbappé is a different player”, he claimed. “He’s a beast on the pitch, very strong in one-on-one, he’s very fast, scores a lot of goals, he’s a very complete player and he’s shown that. In the coming years he will be among the best”

Meanwhile, he was not short on affection for Neymar either, who he spent time with at Barcelona before the Brazilian departed for Paris four years before Messi trod the same path.

“We spent a lot of time together at Barcelona, but I would have liked to have enjoyed it more. Life brought us together in Paris. We are happy to be together again. I really like playing with him and being with Neymar on a daily basis.”
