The powers that be at Premier League outfits Manchester United and Leeds United have come together on Sunday, to send a joint message of condemnation to their respective supporter bases.

This comes after frankly shameful chanting was heard being belted out by both sets of fans on Sunday afternoon.

United and Leeds, of course, locked horns for the 2nd time in the space of a week earlier today.

After the spoils were shared at Old Trafford last time out, on this occasion, Erik ten Hag’s visitors simply proved too much for their long-time rivals, en route to a 2-0 final scoreline.

As alluded to above, though, amid a hotly contested affair in west Yorkshire, the action on the pitch was forced to take a back seat, upon sections of the crowd in attendance overstepping the line in completely needless fashion.

This came shortly before half-time, when members of the Leeds faithful made use of a chant to mock the Munich air disaster of 1958.

On the back of Sunday’s clash coming to a close, it should therefore come as little surprise to hear of ongoings in the Elland Road stands this afternoon being identified as in need of addressing on the part of Leeds and Manchester United alike.

In turn, in an official joint-statement released across social media, the former confirmed that:

‘Both clubs strongly condemn chanting from both sets of fans regarding historic tragedies at today’s game. Such behaviour is completely unacceptable and we will continue to work together with our respective fan groups and the Premier League, and other authorities on eradicating it from football.’
