What looked set to prove a day of celebration for Aston Villa star Boubacar Kamara has, late on Friday night, taken a turn for the worse.
The name of midfield general Kamara, a summer arrival at Villa Park, took its place front and centre in the European headlines earlier in the day.
This came after the 22-year-old was afforded his latest international call-up.
Owing to an injury picked up by Adrien Rabiot, Didier Deschamps opted for Kamara as the Juventus star’s replacement, ahead of France’s upcoming Nations League meetings with Austria and Denmark.
Just hours on, though, Kamara’s hopes of sufficiently impressing his national team boss with a view to securing a place on the plane to the Qatar World Cup have been heavily dented.
This comes after the former Olympique Marseille standout picked up a fitness problem of his own.
Kamara, as expected, was afforded his latest starting berth on Friday evening, as Steven Gerrard’s Villa welcomed Southampton to the English midlands, for a Premier League clash.
Late in the first-half of action, though, the midfield general was forced into a premature departure, owing to what appeared to be a knee concern.
It now remains to be seen whether or not Kamara is primed for an extended spell on the sidelines.
