Former Manchester United defender Paul Parker has labelled Aaron Wan-Bissaka the finest right-full in the Premier League, on the back of the Englishman’s competitive Red Devils’ debut versus Chelsea.
Rashford at the double
United and Chelsea went head-to-head at Old Trafford yesterday evening, in the clubs’ respective Premier League season opener.
All of Manchester City, Liverpool, Tottenham and Arsenal had already picked up respective victories over the previous 48 hours, results which added a further air of importance to the high-profile Manchester showdown.
And, when all was said and done, it was the hosts who got their campaign off to the ideal start.
Despite Chelsea having actually looked the better side for long periods, particularly in the first-half, the Blues’ defensive shortcomings, coupled with the potency of the hosts on the break, eventually resulted in United running out comprehensive 4-0 victors.
Marcus Rashford opened the scoring from the penalty spot with 18 minutes on the clock, before a quickfire double from Anthony Martial and Rashford just past the hour-mark essentially killed the matchup as a contest.
Daniel James then put the finishing touches on a stellar opening day for the Red Devils with the Manchester giants’ 4th, and his first in a competitive fixture for his new club, ten minutes from time.

‘He wants to defend, he loves it’
On a day when Harry Maguire deservedly took the majority of the plaudits for his man of the match display versus Chelsea, though, another of Manchester United’s debutants also thoroughly impressed.
The player in question was Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
Thrust straight into his new club’s backline on the back of his £50 million move from Crystal Palace during the summer, the 21-year-old performed as though he had been playing under with the bright lights at Old Trafford for a decade already.
Ruthless in the tackle and composed in possession, Wan-Bissaka has taken little time in endearing himself to the Red Devils’ faithful.
One individual, meanwhile, to have been particularly impressed by not only the young stopper’s showing yesterday, but his form throughout his fledgling career to this point, is former United star Paul Parker.
In fact, Parker, a full-back himself during his playing days, is of the opinion that Wan-Bissaka, and not Liverpool’s oft-heralded Trent Alexander-Arnold, currently stands as the Premier League’s best in his position:
‘I’ve said it many times, I watched him often last year, I just like what he does.’
‘People talk about the lad at Liverpool [Alexander-Arnold] but he can’t defend like Wan Bissaka, whose defending and positioning is very good. He wants to defend, he loves it.’
‘And every time he won a tackle [against Chelsea] there was no doubt he won it cleanly. You would think he had been there years.’
‘I’m judging him as a defender. He is the best right back in the Premier League.’
‘There’s always a question about him going forward, he can learn that, he will get better and better. He’s playing for a team who will allow him to do that.’
