Finger of blame pointed at one man as Arsenal slip to alarming Everton defeat

 

Arsenal’s supporters have taken to social media in their absolute droves on Monday night, to take aim at manager Mikel Arteta.

Gray wins it at the death

The Gunners were of course back in action a short time ago.

On the back of two defeats in their last three, Arteta and co. made the trip to Goodison Park, no doubt confident in their chances of getting things back on track up against a struggling Everton outfit.

When all was said and done on Merseyside, however, to say that such a development was not forthcoming would be putting it lightly.

Despite a hugely underwhelming performance, the visitors managed to take the lead on the stroke of the interval, when Martin Odegaard broke free in the area to volley home from Kieran Tierney’s delivery:

After Richarlison saw not one, but two goals ruled out for the most marginable of offside calls imaginable, though, Everton finally found a deserved equaliser a little over ten minutes from time.

And it was that man Richarlison on target once again, nodding home after Demarai Gray’s gorgeous bending effort came back off the crossbar:

Then, as proceedings rolled into injury-time, the turnaround was complete.

Demarai Gray, amid an excellent all-round performance on the night, cut inside from his berth on the left flank, to direct another stunning long-range effort off the woodwork.

On this occasion, though, the ball found its way beyond Aaron Ramsdale, and in:

And this is how things finished at Goodison Park, as Everton finally put an end to an 8-game winless streak in the Premier League.

For Arsenal, on the other hand, the inquest will now get underway…

The Gunners, as outlined above, have slipped to three defeats in their last four league outings, a run which has seen them slip off the pace of the top-4.

In turn, it shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise to hear that, on the back of the full-time whistle on Monday night, those of an Arsenal persuasion have not been at all shy in making their frustrations known.

The main recipient of the backlash? Manager Mikel Arteta…
