Fans make Phil Foden claim after key role in Manchester City win


Fans have taken to social media to praise Phil Foden after his role in Manchester City’s win over Atletico Madrid.

Manchester City welcomed Atletico Madrid to the Etihad on Tuesday evening.

The two European powerhouses faced off in the first of two Champions League quarter-final games. The second leg will be played out at the Wanda Metropolitano on Wednesday 13 April.

To make it into the quarter-finals Manchester City hammered Sporting, whilst Atletico edged past Manchester United.

As a result, the Sky Blues looked to be clear favourites for this game.

And Manchester City, as was to be expected, completely dominated possession with Atletico more than happy to sit back, absorb the pressure and then try and hit the home side on the counter. This is something the Spaniards had some luck with during the opening stages of the second 45 in particular.

Phil Foden to the rescue

However, Manchester City would eventually break the deadlock when substitute Foden slipped in Kevin De Bruyne who slotted his effort past Jan Oblak:

After setting up De Bruyne for the key goal less than two minutes after coming on and continuing to cause Atletico problems, fans have been raving about Foden on social media.

And many have gone as far as to label Foden the best young English talent:
