Europa Conference League final: Possible line-ups for Olympiacos vs Fiorentina

Olympiacos and Fiorentina meet in Athens on Wednesday night for the Europa Conference League final.

Europa Conference League

Only one team will be given the honour of lifting the Europa Conference League trophy when Olympiacos and Fiorentina meet in the final on Wednesday.

The players on the pitch will need to be at their best if they are to finish the season on a high and make history as the second-ever champions of the competition.

There is little to split the two on the betting market but we have you covered later on in the article should you fancy a flutter on the match.

Ahead of a big week in Europe, the Conference League final acts as the perfect warm-up for the Champions League final at Wembley on Saturday.

Many viewers may not have watched too much of the competition or the two sides competition. It is worth noting that the Viola come into the match on a 13-game unbeaten run in Europe.

Meanwhile, the Greek side are fresh off the back of thrashing Aston Villa 6-2 on aggregate in the semi-finals.

If you want a refresher on the details of the Europa Conference League, you can find everything you need to know here.

There are no major injury concerns for either team, meaning they are expected to field their strongest possible line-ups, which we have predicted below.

Possible line-ups

Olympiacos: Tzolakis; Rodinei, Retsos, David Carmo, Ortega; Chiquinho, Iborra, Hezze; Podence, El Kaabi, Fortounis

Fiorentina: Terracciano; Dodo, Martinez Quarta, Milenkovic, Biraghi; Mandragora, Bonaventura; Gonzalez, Beltran, Kouame; Belotti

Form guide

Olympiacos: DWLWWW

The Greek Super League’s third-placed side have been in pretty good form in the run-up to the match, losing just one of their last six matches in all competitions. In their final game of the domestic campaign, they drew 2-2 to Panathinaikos in a match that saw Daniel Podence sent off late on.

Fiorentina: WDWDLW

The Serie A side still have one match left to play in their league campaign due to their commitments to the European competition but like their opponents, Fiorentina have been firing at the right time. They have lost one of their last six and beat Cagliari in a five-goal thriller last time out.

Predictions

The final really is a tough one to call and while Fiorentina hold a slight advantage in the markets, it would be foolish to rule out Olympiacos after their performances in the semi-finals.

Olympiacos have changed their manager three times across the campaign and although they failed to win a 48th Greek title, they are now preparing to play in their first-ever European final.

Jose Luis Mendilibar has certainly steadied the ship and they are playing only a few miles away from their home stadium. Although the crowd will be split equally, the native club will feel like it is a home game against the Italian visitors.

However, Fiorentina have revenge on their minds. They lost to West Ham in the final last season and will do everything possible to avoid a repeat.

Unlike in 2023, they enter this bout as favourites but will still have to be at the top of their game to defeat Olympiacos, who thrive as underdogs.

With everything considered, we are leaning towards an Olympiacos win and their first major European trophy.
