Erik ten Hag sends message to underperforming Antony

Erik ten Hag has been discussing Manchester United winger, Antony.

Manchester United signed Ajax winger Antony in the final week of the summer 2022 transfer window.

The deal includes a potential €5m (£4.27m) of add-ons - making him United’s second most expensive signing, ahead of the £80m paid for defender Harry Maguire.

Antony, 22, scored 24 goals and provided 22 assists in 82 appearances for Ajax and got off to a bright star for Manchester United as well.

The Brazilian found the net as Manchester United handed Arsenal their only defeat of the league season to date.

However, Antony has since struggled for form somewhat and has now been sent a message by Erik ten Hag:

“When he is playing, the team is winning and that already gives a message I think how well he is performing,” Ten Hag told reporters.

“He can do better, I see space for improvement and, for instance - and I think you notice - we want him to be more direct, more involved. But the team is performing better if he is on the pitch and that is a good thing, a good base to build further on.

“I think he already makes improvement, he scored some goals, he scored in his first three games, now he scores against Everton and Charlton, so he has an impact,” he added.

“But I think with his capabilities, with his talents he can do even more. He has a good contribution in the team.”
