Match report
The World Cup Last-16 showdown between England and Senegal on Sunday night ultimately proved to be something of a non-contest, as the former ran out dominant winners in Al Khor.
The Three Lions marked their return to action a short time ago.
Fresh off a solid if at times unspectacular group stage showing, Gareth Southgate’s troops were tasked with a meeting with AFCON holders Senegal in their bid to book a quarter-final berth.
And, as alluded to above, when all was said and done, march on to the final eight on world football’s grandest stage is precisely what England went on to do.
After struggling to get into gear from the off at the Al Bayt Stadium, the Three Lions faithful were finally afforded a reason to celebrate with 38 minutes on the clock.
This came upon the electric Jude Bellingham rolling across the face of foal for Jordan Henderson to slot into the far corner, fully justifying his inclusion in Southgate’s starting XI in the process:
England take the lead through Jordan Henderson!! 🙌🏴

On this occasion, Harry Kane was the scorer, capitalising on some altogether naive defending to latch onto Phil Foden’s through ball, and slot confidently beyond Edouard Mendy for his long-awaited first goal of the Qatar World Cup:
“You weren’t going to keep him off the scoresheet for long!” 😏

And England only continued to pile misery on their African opponents from here, as the clash was all but ended as a contest early in the 2nd-half of play.
Foden, once again, acted as provider, in delivering a typically pinpoint cross for Bukayo Saka to round out the evening’s scoring in style:
And that’s three!! 🙌

England, in turn, have booked a daunting World Cup quarter-final showdown with champions France, fresh off a Kylian Mbappe-inspired victory over Poland earlier in the day.

Beautiful football again from @England. Credit to Gareth Southgate for his decisions. Both his controversial picks have played a part and scored. What a time to be alive!

Let’s be honest.
1) Henderson
2) Scholes
3) Lampard
4) Gerrard— ksi (@KSI) December 4, 2022
Wow, so so so so Naive from Senegal, what are they doing ???? Just get to halftime
— Cole (@SiakamSpinV2) December 4, 2022
After a great first 40, Senegal made two mistakes you cannot make – allow England to play in transition, and open up right before half time
Now, a game they could’ve easily taken to HT 0-0 is now 2-0. That’s naive, unfortunately#FIFAWorldCup

Phil Foden and Jude Bellingham are the biggest reason we’re where we are rn. I better not see any Mount fuckery against France

Dembele and Giroud will eat Maguire alive

Well I certainly laughed when Birmingham retired the 22 shirt, they clearly knew something we didn’t.
— Jack ‘Pie’ McDermott (@the_pieface) December 4, 2022
Koulibaly is a terrific leader and individual but organising his backline like the likes of John Terry is definitely not one of his strengths.
— Vince™ (@Blue_Footy) December 4, 2022
Only hope we have against France is Kyle Walker’s pace. If Maguire and Stones are this sloppy against them Mbappe will put them in a blender.
