Diogo Jota provides injury update on himself ahead of Fulham vs Liverpool

Diogo Jota has provided a less than great injury update on himself this week.

Jota put pen to paper on a new five-year contract on Tuesday, keeping him at Liverpool until 2027.

Jota joined the Reds from Wolves in 2020 and has since enjoyed a fruitful stint under Jurgen Klopp.

In 55 outings last term, Jota scored 21 and assisted eight. His versatility is also a very useful tool for Liverpool to have.

However, it does look as though Liverpool will have to manage without the 25-year-old in the early stages of the campaign.

This comes with the player himself confirming that he will be out for a few more weeks following an injury he picked up with Portugal:

“Unfortunately for me I had an upset in this pre-season because I got injured [in the] last game of the season playing with Portugal,” Jota said. “So I was coming back in this pre-season, I felt it a little bit again. So it will be a few more weeks, I would say.”

Fulham vs Liverpool

Liverpool face Fulham in the season’s firstly early kick-off this coming Saturday.

Liverpool head into the tie as clear favourites to pick up a win against the newly-promoted side.

Fulham have spent well in the transfer market this summer, but they seem to do so every year before then going straight back down to the Championship.

As for Liverpool, they should have little issue coping without Jota as they have Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez to fill the void in the Reds’ attack.
