A fresh insight into the stance of those in a position of power at Chelsea when it comes to renewing the club’s efforts to land Edson Alvarez has been provided on Sunday evening.

The subject of Alvarez’s future, of course, has been cast back into the spotlight over the course of the last 24 hours.

This comes after Ajax’s versatile midfield star broke his silence on seeing a big-money summer move to England crumble at the last.

Then-boss Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea are understood to have tabled a number of offers for Alvarez’s signature, only to see their efforts come up short in the face of an Ajax board still reeling from the departure of Antony.

Alvarez, though, was not shy in admitting that he remains hopeful that a move to one of European football’s heavyweights will soon come to fruition:

“I am very disappointed about it,” the 25-year-old told ESPN. “But I am convinced that one day another big club will come for me. This winter, or in the summer. For now I can only focus on Ajax.”

Could this club yet be Chelsea, though?

Well, as alluded to above, on Sunday, a insight into as much has been forthcoming online.

The info comes courtesy of transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who has reiterated to Caught Offside that, despite Thomas Tuchel’s departure, the Stamford Bridge hierarchy remain huge fans of Alvarez’s talents.

This comes with the Mexican international viewed as a potential long-term replacement for N’Golo Kante.

A fresh proposal being submitted for Alvarez following the turn of the year, as a result, is viewed as ‘a possibility, but not something that is guaranteed yet’.
